Job Description
What you will be doing:
Litigating workers’ compensation cases through all phases
Communicating with claims representatives
Monitoring loss run reports for trends and increases and alerting management to concerns
Gathering medical evidence and medical records
Taking depositions of the claimant physicians medical experts and other parties
Conducting discovery
Performing legal research
Remaining current with developments in the law
Drafting pleadings findings of fact motions briefs opinions and other legal documents
Litigating cases before a general liability or workers compensation judge or referee
Representing the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings trials depositions oral arguments mediations arbitrations and other proceedings
Assisting with the investigation of accidents and problem areas
Managing workers compensation costs to reduce liability
Compiling and submitting reports required by company management
Coordinating and attending claims reviews
Negotiating settlements on behalf of the insurance company
Performing other related duties as assigned
Experience you will need:
J.D. and bar license in Tennessee; passing the bar in another Midwest state a plus
Proven track record of 26 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense
Working knowledge of legal principles and practices
In depth knowledge of local state and federal laws and regulations
Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology
Microsoft Word experience required; Perfect Law legal software experience preferred
Must be selfmotivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure
Must have the ability to work as part of a team as well independently
Firm and Client Confidentiality required
