What you will be doing:

• Litigating workers’ compensation cases through all phases
• Communicating with claims representatives
• Monitoring loss run reports for trends and increases and alerting management to concerns
• Gathering medical evidence and medical records
• Taking depositions of the claimant physicians medical experts and other parties
• Conducting discovery
• Performing legal research
• Remaining current with developments in the law
• Drafting pleadings findings of fact motions briefs opinions and other legal documents
• Litigating cases before a general liability or workers compensation judge or referee
• Representing the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings trials depositions oral arguments mediations arbitrations and other proceedings
• Assisting with the investigation of accidents and problem areas
• Managing workers compensation costs to reduce liability
• Compiling and submitting reports required by company management
• Coordinating and attending claims reviews
• Negotiating settlements on behalf of the insurance company
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Experience you will need:

• J.D. and bar license in Tennessee; passing the bar in another Midwest state a plus
• Proven track record of 26 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices
• In depth knowledge of local state and federal laws and regulations
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology
• Microsoft Word experience required; Perfect Law legal software experience preferred
• Must be selfmotivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure
• Must have the ability to work as part of a team as well independently
